Bitwarden Brings Password-Free Sign-In to Apps with Magic Links

Good Morning! Bitwarden has launched a new feature called "magic links" for password-free authentication in apps. JetBrains has upgraded its popular IDEs with AI-powered code completion capabilities for multiple programming languages. DataStax, the AI data platform company, has acquired Langflow to supercharge the development of generative AI applications.

Bitwarden Brings Password-Free Sign-In to Apps with Magic Links

Bitwarden has launched a new magic links feature as part of its Passwordless.dev toolkit, allowing developers to add password-free authentication to their applications.

What are Magic Links?: The magic links tool lets developers send users a special one-time link via email to sign in without entering a password. When the user clicks the link, they get automatically logged into the app.

Security Benefits:

  • Reduces risk of hackers stealing login credentials since no passwords are stored

  • Verifies the user's email during account setup

User Experience Benefits:

  • Allows easy account recovery without dealing with forgotten passwords

  • Creates a smoother user experience by skipping the hassle of typing passwords when signing in or creating an account

The magic links tool handles all the complex behind-the-scenes work like creating secure tokens, storing them, and building the links into emails. Developers can add the password-free feature with just a few lines of code.

The magic links capability is available now across all Bitwarden Passwordless.dev pricing plans. Key details:

  • The free plan allows 100 magic link emails per month

  • Paid plans offer up to 1,000 magic link emails per month

JetBrains Upgrades IDEs with AI Code Completion

JetBrains has released the 2024.1 versions of its popular integrated development environments (IDEs) like IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand, and others. This update brings significant productivity enhancements, particularly through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) models.

The standout feature is AI-powered full line code completion for:

  • Java

  • Kotlin

  • Python

  • JavaScript

  • TypeScript

  • CSS

  • PHP

  • Go

  • Ruby

The AI models driving this capability were trained specifically on each programming language and run locally on the user's machine, ensuring data privacy and low latency. JetBrains aims to extend this functionality to C#, Rust, and C++ in the coming months.

Other Notable Improvements:

  • Overhauled terminal with visual enhancements for better command-line experience

  • IntelliJ IDEA now supports Java 22

  • New Kotlin K2 mode leveraging the K2 compiler for enhanced code analysis

  • GoLand's data flow analysis moves out of beta

  • Python/JS/TS full line completion in PyCharm

IDE-Specific Updates:

  • RubyMine can run version control commands using the project's Ruby SDK version

  • PhpStorm adds Symfony AssetMapper support for dependency management

  • AI Assistant plugin receives upgrades like improved test generation and cloud code completion

DataStax Buys Langflow to Supercharge AI App Building

DataStax, the AI data platform company, has purchased Langflow, creators of the popular open source visual tool for building retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) apps. The goal is to make developing advanced generative AI applications up to 100 times faster and easier.

Langflow provides a drag-and-drop interface for visually composing AI application workflows from reusable Python components and pre-built blocks. This allows developers to rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on RAG apps built with LangChain. They can seamlessly integrate data sources, language models, vector databases like DataStax Astra DB, and other AI services.

A major advantage is the Langflow Store ecosystem where devs collaborate by publishing and sharing custom components. This crowdsources an ever-expanding library of building blocks for quickly assembling and fine-tuning AI workflows with precise control.

The Langflow team will keep independently driving the open source project, focused on product innovation and growing the community. DataStax sees the acquisition as creating an end-to-end generative AI stack by combining Langflow's low-code RAG capabilities with their data platform and AI/ML integrations.

Developers can get started at langflow.com and use guides, sample workflows, and docs to visually construct AI apps at a fraction of the usual development effort.
